Hi !! Thank you for the question! I didn’t have a specific EC/job/internship, but rather I tried to talk about the things that I was involved in that I was most passionate about. For my UC essays, these weren’t necessarily about business or engineering, but rather were meant to show snapshots of who I am. In my M.E.T. essay, I talked about my experience at an entrepreneurship competition that showed me that I was interested in this intersection between business & engineering. I then talked about how a later experience at an internship, where I was helping a company launch a new product, reinforced this interest.

A: M.E.T. is highly competitive. The number of admitted applicants is kept small to ensure close mentoring and a tight-knit cohort. Applicants who are not admitted to the M.E.T. program will automatically be considered for admission to Berkeley Engineering’s AE, BioE, CE, EECS, IEOR, MSE, or ME majors. However, admission to these majors is not guaranteed.

A: Sometimes there can be a delay on when students receive the supplemental essay form. While it typically takes 5-7 business days, it sometimes takes longer. There’s nothing the M.E.T. office or the Office of Undergraduate Admissions (OUA) can do to expedite the process. Our recommendation is for students to begin writing their now and have it ready to submit once they do receive the form.

How to Write the Duke Supplemental Essay

Once you submit your application, you’ll receive an additional email from UC Berkeley’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions asking you to write and submit a supplemental essay about your interest in M.E.T. Expect to receive this email in early December. From there, you’ll have until 11:59pm PST on December 15, 2024 to submit your supplemental essay. Failure to submit your essay by the deadline will remove you from consideration to the M.E.T. Program.
